I bought my snow joe from Costco ($200) when it was on sale during the Xmas season. It turned out to be a timely, great purchase, as we got 2 snow storms in 5 days in PA. It is reasonably well built, and powerful enough to handle snow of about 12 inches thick.
One of the tricks I learned for easy continuous use is to affix the power cord to the handle (I used two lock-ties). Otherwise the power plug could get off easily, and even got dangerously hot due to mal-connection. The second trick is, if the snow is thick than 10 inches, manually clear a path in the snow with snow shovel first, and then use the snow joe having it eat one or two thirds of its width on each pass. This will ensure that the snow joe could throw the snow to a good distance.
